Meta Mate "1" - vacuum packed 500g
Unlike the Argentine yerba mate which is first stored for 1 year and is obtained from the monoculture, this Brazilian Meta Mate is grown wild and is freshly packed . Therefore it has a mild taste.
The cut of this yerba mate makes it easy to prepare it in a traditional mate cup with a bombilla. The yerba mate can also be prepared like a tea by adding 2 tablespoons of yerba mate per liter of water.
Just as craft of roasting coffee is valorized by connoisseurs, the quality of the Sapeco step in the Mate production plays a vital role. Besides affecting the flavor, the sapeco (the Guarani word for opening the eyes) is vital in stopping the oxidation process of the leaves once cut from the tree. In normal mate productions, the leaves are collected and transported to a processing plant where this procedure is carried out on conveyer belts.
After researching traditions and experimenting with our productions over the past years, we discovered that the most effective sapeco could only be done by hand. The experienced harvester is capable of rapidly passing a branch over the fire, ensuring that the leaves do not burn but that they are exposed sufficiently to cause tiny explosions on the surface of the leaf. This enriches the flavor of the mate. Joining hands with others, we have found with Meta Mate 1 the perfect union between hand work and an industrial process. The product's name (1) is derived from the fact that it was one of the first joint projects in 2012 between Meta Mate and Barao.

Instructions for use:
Preparation in the French Press / Teapot: for 1 litre you take approx. 12g yerba mate and let it brew at 80 degrees for approx. 5 minutes.
